This 3-day break offers two treasures of the South West region: wine and cognac. Sojourn in a renaissance-style castle conveniently situated between Cognac and Bordeaux that is totally devoted to relaxation and well-being.  From there you can enjoy the charm of prestigious Saint Emilion or Medoc Bordeaux vineyards as well as the Cognac region, and the secrets of distillation of the finest “French brandy."

Day One.  Bordeaux—Chateau de Mirambeau

Upon arrival in Bordeaux (late morning), you will be greeted by your expert driver/guide for a 3-hour tour of Bordeaux.  From the vestiges of the Middle-Ages to the elegance of the 18th century, you’ll discover the different golden ages of Bordeaux's history, dominated by the wine trade and various colonial influences. Lunch at your convenience in the old town of the city.  Next, you’ll head north to your fabulous Chateau-hotel where you can relax for the rest of the day. The chateau offers various activities on the spot:  jogging and cycling tracks;  a large park;  two swimming pools; a spa center;  2 tennis courts;  tasting sessions and cooking classes.

Day Two.  Saint Emilion town and vineyards

Discover Saint-Emilion, an enchanting, medieval town that stands proudly at the top of a hill overlooking the Dordogne valley, and built in the shape of an amphitheatre.  Saint Emilion is an incredible open-air museum.  The most surprising remains are without doubt its underground monuments:  galleries covering more than 150 acres and the breathtaking monolithic church, dug out of solid limestone.  You will end your visit of the town with a wine tasting in one of its numerous cellars.  After lunch, the afternoon will be devoted to the discovery of Saint Emilion region’vineyards.   During this wine tour, you’ll discover exceptional wines and the art of tasting.

Day Three. Cognac region and distilleries

Your driver-guide will take you on a discovery of this superb region whose reputation belongs both to its rich architectural heritage and its famous brandy.  In the historical towns of Cognac and Jarnac, you’ll discover the cellars of such prestigious distillers as Hennessy, Otard, and Martell, Hine, or Courvoisier and “les Paradis,” the secret of Cognac collections.  You’ll meet the producers of the Grande Champagne vineyards and the 1st growth of Cognac.  The slopes of the “Champagne” (the word comes from the Latin for “chalk”) districts—Cognac, Segonzac—yield the highest quality brandy.  The outlying “Bois” or wooded areas still bear the scars of huge swathes of forest felled in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, to provide firewood for Cognac's stills and timber for the shipyards at La Rochelle.  Transfer in the late afternoon to the Bordeaux airport or the Angoulême TGV station.
