On this break, you’ll discover the high plateau of Provence, including the perched villages of Gordes and Roussillon in the Vaucluse and the Luberon with its legendary fields of lavender. Taste delectable lamb and seafood dishes and the rich Chateauneuf du Pape wines from the region. Visit enticing towns like Avignon with its famous bridge, ramparts and palace of popes.  Discover Gallo-Roman vestiges in St. Remy de Provence and Arles, famous also for Van Gogh.

 

Enjoy the views of Camargue and the coast from the Baux de Provence, a historic fortress town considered to be one of the most beautiful in France.  Bask yourself in culture in Aix-en-Provence, the City of Art and Enlightenment, with its universities, historic townhouses, tree-lined streets, market squares and Roman baths.  Visit Marseilles, the charming fishing port of Cassis and admire the views of the coastal cliffs and Mediterranean fjords called calanques that are so popular with rock-climbers and tourists alike.

Haute Provence Itinerary

Day One.  Your driver-guide will meet you at the Avignon/Aix-en-Provence train station or Marseilles airport and drive you to your charming hotel late in the morning.  After you settle in and have lunch, you will enjoy a walking tour of Aix-en-Provence, including the old City, the Quartier Mazarin with its 17th century townhouses, the Sextius Baths and the charming tree-lined Cours Mirabeau.  Relax for dinner at your hotel or one of the many fine restaurants nearby.

Day Two.   After breakfast, you’ll head on a gastronomic and culinary adventure.  Visit small villages in Haute Provence – Gordes and Roussillon.  Enjoy lunch at la Bonne Etape, a fine Michelin-star restaurant famous for its lamb and fresh vegetables.  After lunch, enjoy a stroll at the Mont Ventoux, before heading to a wine tasting at a Chateauneuf du Pape winery.

Day Three. After breakfast, discover the historic town of Avignon – former seat of the Popes and famous for its bridge.  Walk the streets and markets of Saint Remy and Baux de Provence and admire the views.  Visit the city of Arles, famous for Van Gogh and its Roman vestiges.

Day Four.  Head south for a city tour of Marseille where you’ll visit the Basilique Notre Dame de la Garde and the old port.  Next, head to the charming fishing port of Cassis for lunch and visit the calanques and the beautiful white cliffs along the Mediterranean to La Ciotat.  At the end of the day, your driver-guide will bring you to the airport or train station for your onward journey.
